Character Animation

For my character animation I wanted to create something simple in both design and ease of animation. I settled on a kind of small monster with many tentacles and one large eye in the middle of his head. I made his eye look around while waving with his right arm. The biggest thing I learned while working on this character was just how much you need to think of how the character will be animated in order to put all appropriate sections on different layers. You don't just need to worry about how it looks but also how it will move. The more complex the movements you are attempting the more precise you need to be with what sections go on what layers.

Interesting Banner

This banner caught my attention for many reasons. Its aim is to help users understand the frustration sufferers of ALS deal with on a daily basis. Simple acts such as shaving one's own face is literally out of their hands. Those with ALS need to rely on others to complete everyday tasks as, one by one, they lose functions of the body. What instantly caught my attention was the overall mood of the banner. Instead of being cheery and flashy, as almost all banners tend to be, it accomplishes an almost somber theme by the dulled out picture and the actions the user is taking part in. Many banners try to stand out with vibrant colors and flashy images but as more and more companies use this technique they are actually just falling into place with all other adds. That is the reason this stood out to me. It's different and an experience the user will remember. The action within the banner also feels so, almost, lifelike that you so rarely see in simple flash banners. It asks the user to help shave the mans face by clicking onto the razor and guiding it down a man's face. The fluidity of the motion and starkness of the rest of the image give a sad and, to me at least, creepy tone. At the end of three shaving strokes a message fades in explaining the reason for helping this man shave: because he has lost the ability to accomplish it on his own. I think the tone if this banner was the main component in standing out to me. It is just something you tend not too see, and anything that is noticed above all other ads on the web is an impressive thing.
